The Algeria destination is attracting more and more international interest
In the space of just a week, two major British media outlets have urged English and European tourists to come and visit Algeria before it is overrun with visitors, as is currently the case with its two neighbors. , Morocco, and Tunisia.
These articles certainly highlight Algeria’s tourism potential, but also question the reasons why the country lags in the field of tourism, even though it can compete with many other destinations.
In 2023, the country received only 3.3 million foreign travelers, of which 1.2 million were members of the Algerian community abroad and 1.8 million Tunisians. Very few European tourists have visited Algeria due in particular to fear of visas and the high cost of plane tickets.
“ The lack of tourists testifies to Algeria’s neglect of a sector which remains one of the little-known jewels of world tourism,” deplores the same newspaper The Independent.
And given the improvement in the security context in the country, Algeria must start by putting in place “ an easier visa system ” and remedy “ poor transport connections ”, suggests the English newspaper. Encouraging local and foreign private investors will also allow tourism to prosper.

The MP for emigration from Zone 4, including Great Britain, recently raised the problem of air connectivity between the United Kingdom and Algeria. For him, Algeria must take advantage of this interest shown by international media to increase the number of its visitors.
“ When a British citizen reads this article and wishes to visit Algeria for the holidays, he will certainly not find a plane ticket,” wrote the parliamentarian on his Facebook page, commenting on recent articles on the Algeria destination.
Previously, “ we had six regular weekly flights from Great Britain and now we only have five, despite the constant increase in members of our community,” laments the MP.
This observation also comes, according to the same speaker, at a time when the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “ wants to make Algiers airport a hub in the region, knowing that there are more than 2.5 million Africans in Britain.
Thus, he finds that the five weekly flights available are not enough to transport members of the diaspora, tourists, and travelers in transit to other African countries.
The MP claims to have recently asked the Minister for Transport “ to increase frequencies between the two countries as quickly as possible, not necessarily from London Heathrow, but also from Stansted and Manchester ”.
