Tunisian presidential election: arrest warrant against candidate Ayachi Zammel

The public prosecutor at the Manouba Court of First Instance issued this morning, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, a committal warrant against presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel.

The leader of the Azimoun party will be brought before the criminal court under arrest for suspicion of falsifying popular sponsorships presented in his candidacy file, which, let us recall, had been accepted by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE).

Ayachi Zammel was arrested and taken into custody the day before yesterday following complaints filed against him for false sponsorships presented in his candidacy file for the presidential election on October 6.

After this twist, there is a great risk that the candidates in the election will be reduced to two: the President of the Republic, Kaรฏs Saรฏed, who is seeking a second term, and Zouhair Maghzaoui, Secretary General of the Echaรขb movement (Arab nationalist), known for his noisy support for the tenant of the Carthage Palace.

Let us also recall that earlier today, the electoral commission transferred the file of one of the candidates who failed in the presidential election of October 6 to the public prosecutor at the court of first instance in Tunis for fraud, falsification, and false testimony. This is Imed Daรฏmi.
