The Ministry of Equipment and Housing will launch the construction of an experimental pilot road integrating recycled construction and demolition waste (DC&D).
The project was the subject of a cooperation agreement signed on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in Tunis between the Ministry of Equipment and the Center for Studies and Expertise on Risks, the Environment, Mobility, and urban planning (Cerema), a French public body.
The construction of this experimental road is part of the project “Application of innovation for the development of a circular economy for sustainable construction in the Mediterranean” (Re-Med).
With funding of 3.1 million euros, 90% provided by the European Union (EU), Re-Med involves four countries: Tunisia, France, Italy and Lebanon. It also provides for the application of innovative techniques such as building information modeling and 3D diagnostics by drone.
Presenting the components of the project, the Minister of Equipment Sarra Zaafrani Zenzeri indicated that it consists of two sections of roads of 1 km each. The first, which will serve as a control section, will be built with conventional materials, while the second, an experimental model, will be built with recycled construction and demolition waste.
