About 3 million tourists visited Tunisia from the beginning of the year until the end of July 2022, with the number of overnight stays having exceeded 7 million and revenues reaching 2 billion Tunisian dinars (MDT).
This was indicated by the Minister of Tourism, Mohamed Moez Belhassine, during a working visit he made Monday, August 8 to Medenine, saying that the figures are close to those of 2019, the year of benchmark that preceded the appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic, which recorded nearly 9.5 million tourist entries.
The ministry aims to reach 50-60% of 2019 figures by the end of the current year.
The Djerba-Zarzis tourist area, visited by the Minister, occupies first place at the national level in terms of reception capacity, staff and hotel units.
About 510,000 tourists visited this area in the first seven months of the year, while overnight stays reached 2,400,000, up 218 percent from the same period of 2021.
The Algerian and Libyan markets remain important for Tunisian tourism, he noted, especially with the recovery of tourism.
The number of Libyan tourists reached 800,000 at the end of July 2022, the minister said, knowing that the borders between Algeria and Tunisia were only reopened in mid-July.
