The secretary general of the Union of Workers of Tunisia (UTT) Ismail Sahbani, called on the government to assume its responsibility to deal with soaring prices and the deterioration of citizens’ purchasing power.
This is what emerges from the opening of the 3rd national congress of the UTT which was held in Hammamet and whose organization is focused on the internal affairs of the country apart from its trade union role and on the preservation of the interests workers and national achievements.
He pointed out that this congress, which includes 3 sections (social, economic and political) will lead to a number of recommendations illustrating his positions and his program of action for the next stage.
In this context, Sahbani called on the government to fully assume its responsibility in order to intervene to ensure the balance of the market and the increase in wages as well as to deal with what he describes as “lobbies exerting influence in the economic sector , which are at the origin of the deterioration of the purchasing power of citizens”.
“This congress will make it possible to evaluate the previous stages, to prospect the future of the UTT and will determine its position with regard to the next political deadlines, including in particular the presidential election of 2024”, he noted.
The secretary general of the UTT reiterated his call on the government and the presidency of the Republic to assume their responsibilities in terms of reforming the economic sector, pointing out the need to pay particular attention to the region of Gafsa and in the mining basin, to solve the problems linked to the production of phosphate.
For his part, the deputy secretary general of the UTT in charge of internal regulations, Lotfi Chatmi, told the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency that about 400 delegates are taking part in the work of this 3rd UTT congress which will will continue for two days, we read from the same source.
