Tunisia: Urban Hike in the City of Kef with Green Trek

Green Trek, whose motto can be summed up in four words: “Nature, freedom, fresh air, and beautiful landscapes, organizes an urban trek in the city of Le Kef, the capital of Numidia, located in the northwest of Tunisia, near the Algerian border.

“With our guide from the city of Kef, Mohamed Tlili, we will take you to discover the secret history of this city, formerly called Sicca Venetia, a picturesque city built on the side of the mountain, which charms both by its nature and by its medina where Christian, Jewish and Islamic buildings rub shoulders,” writes Green Trek.

From the Kasbah to the Basilica, passing through the old Jewish quarter and the mausoleum of Sidi Bou Makhlouf, hikers will be invited to discover the ancient and turbulent history of Le Kef, from the Punic period to the Arab period, by through the Roman and Byzantine periods.

This city with its charm preserved through time and which carries a history several thousand years old remains very little known to the general public.

On the program, a visit to the archaeological site of Althiburos, an ancient Numidian city that came under the influence of Carthage. Located on the road linking Carthage to Théveste, the city obtained from Emperor Hadrian (117-138) the status of a municipality under the name of Municipium Aelium Hadrianum Augustum Althiburitanum.

Also on the program is a visit to the famous Cave of the Arts of Si Ammar, a kind of cultural reserve dedicated to the preservation of artistic works.

The deadline for registration is November 25, knowing that the hike will take place on the 27th of the same month.
