Tunisia expects to welcome 500,000 cruise passengers by 2027 and hopes to recover to the level of 2010, with 1 million.
The first cruise ship “MSC GRANDIOSA” docked four days ago at the port of La Goulette, marking the launch of the cruise tourism season for 2023 in Tunisia.
In a statement given to the Tunis Afrique Presse agency (TAP/official), the general manager of the port of La Goulette, Sami Debbiche indicated that the port welcomed a cruise ship with 5,500 tourists of different nationalities on board, in particular French, Italian and Spanish.
Debbiche also returned to the relaunch of tourist activities for the 2023 season, specifying that 44 cruises are expected in Tunisia until the end of October 2023. While around 160,000 cruise passengers will set sail for the country, as part of the cruise tourism, compared to 50,000 visitors last year, the same source reported.
Indeed, the reception of this boat was a reassuring sign of a gradual revival of tourist activities and an opportunity for traders and craftsmen to sell their products.
On their arrival, some tourists went to discover the Medina, Sidi Bou Said and Carthage, while others preferred to stay on board the boat or visit the tourist village of the port.
With 2,421 cabins spread over 19 floors, the ship, which entered service in 2019, consists of several amenities and means of comfort and leisure, including a swimming pool, a theater, an art museum, restaurants, cafes and game rooms,
