In total, 7,205 candidates, including 1,028 with reduced mobility, are in the running for the local elections, the first of their kind in the country’s history.
Tunisians are at the polls this Sunday from 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. GMT) to 6:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. GMT) to elect their local representatives, against a backdrop of boycotts by the various political parties.
In total, 7,205 candidates, including 1,028 with reduced mobility, are in the running for the local elections, the first of their kind in the country’s history.
In the city center of the capital Tunis, in front of one of the polling stations, a significant security deployment was noted by Anadolu, while few voters flocked early to exercise their right to vote.
Some 2,434 local council members, numbering 279 in total, will be elected.
They will be responsible for choosing the composition of the future National Council of Regions and Districts in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of July 25, 2022.
According to the pre-established electoral schedule, the preliminary results of the first round of this vote are scheduled for December 27, at the latest, while the final results will be announced on January 27, after the expiry of the appeal deadlines.
A special program has been put in place by the Ministry of Transport, in anticipation of the organization of these local elections, in coordination with the various national and regional companies placed under its supervision.
According to a press release published on Saturday by the Department of Transport, this program aims to ensure the movement of voters, particularly those residing in rural areas, to polling stations, as well as staff of the Independent High Authority for Elections. (ISIE) and the various agents who will participate in this national meeting, according to the Tunis Afrique Presse agency (TAP/official).
