While It Was 9.1% In September
The inflation rate increased slightly in Tunisia, to 9.2% last October.
This is what emerges from a statement made public this Saturday by the National Institute of Statistics of Tunisia (INS, government).
According to the press release, “In October 2022, the inflation rate increased slightly to 9.2% after having settled at 9.1% in the previous month”, and this, in a context of continuous fluctuation in terms of availability of local commodities and their rising prices globally.
The INS added, “In October 2022, consumer prices increased by 1%, after 1.1% in September”.
The food price index also increased “by 0.8%, mainly due to an increase in the prices of eggs (+11.3%), dairy and cheese derivatives (+3.4%), meat sheep (+2.5%) and beef (+2.2%)”.
The same goes for the prices of clothing products, which rose by 6.1% due to the end of the summer sales. Thus, the prices of clothing items increased by 6.1%, shoes by 7.3%, fabrics by 1.2%, and miscellaneous accessories by 2%.
Tunisia is going through a serious economic crisis, exacerbated by the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, and the rising prices of energy imports and basic materials, due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
