Tunisia: Saïed Dismisses the CEO of the Electricity and Gas Company

A few days after a power outage, which lasted 3 hours, in most regions of the country, following a technical breakdown, according to STEG

Tunisian President Kais Saïed dismissed the general director of the Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) (government), Hichem Anene, without citing the reasons for this decision.

The Presidency of the Republic indicated, in a concise statement, on its official Facebook account, that Saïed “decided to appoint Faysal Trifa to succeed Hichem Anene at the head of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company.”

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the Interior Ministry announced a three-hour power cut in most regions of the country, starting at 1:30 a.m. (00:30 GMT).

Commenting on the power outage, the company said in a statement that “what happened was due to a technical failure ensuring that there was no explosion, either in the electrical system or in the networks. regional.”

The dismissed CEO also announced that the humidity level reaching 90% had affected parts of the electricity network, with a high pressure of 225 thousand volts.

For his part, the public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Ben Arous ordered the opening of a judicial investigation to determine the causes of the power cuts which affected several regions of the country.

Remember that Anene was appointed president and CEO of the “Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company” on December 11, 2020, by the decision of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.
