The head of the Tunisian government Ahmed Hachani announced his country’s “full” support for the Algerian initiative aimed at resolving the crisis in Niger, expressing “deep satisfaction with the dynamic of bilateral cooperation” between the two countries in various areas.
This is what emerges from a speech delivered by Hachani during the opening, with his Algerian counterpart, Ayman bin Abdel Rahman, of the work of the Grand Joint Committee between the two countries, Wednesday, at the Palais des Conferences in Algiers, according to a press release from the presidency of the Tunisian government.
Hachani welcomed the positive results of the Tunisian-Algerian Economic Forum organized on the sidelines of Algeria’s hosting of the 22nd session of the Joint Grand Committee between the two countries.
The 21st session of the Grand Joint Committee of the two countries was held on March 9, 2017 in Tunisia, and was chaired by the former head of the Tunisian government Youssef Chahed and the former Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, and resulted in the signing of 8 legal texts and bilateral programs.
“The historical fraternal relations that unite our two brother peoples confirm the need to pay great attention to the Algerian and Tunisian communities at different levels,” Hachani said, according to the same press release.
He also expressed his “deep satisfaction with the dynamics of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various areas.”
And the Tunisian official added: “Continued coordination and consultations between the leaders of our two countries on various regional and international issues are an essential source to further strengthen our bilateral relations”, noting in this context “the identical points of view of the two countries on numerous regional and international issues.
In this context, Hachani expressed “his full support for the Algerian initiative aimed at resolving the crisis in Niger.”
On Monday, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had “received, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger, an official correspondence noting the acceptance of Algerian mediation aimed at developing a political solution to the existing crisis in this brother country.
At the end of last August, the head of Algerian diplomacy, Ahmed Attaf announced during a press conference an initiative aimed at resolving the crisis in his country’s southern neighbor, Niger, leading to the return to constitutional order after 6 months.
Algeria is seeking, through diplomatic steps, to find a political solution to the crisis that Niger entered after the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26.
On the other hand, Hachani met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the presidential palace, according to a later statement from the Tunisian government.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister informed the Algerian President of “sincere fraternal greetings from his brother, President Kaïs Saïed”, according to the press release.
“Such a meeting is an opportunity to learn the vision and directions of President Tebboune to further strengthen fraternal relations and cooperation between the two countries,” according to the same press release.
On Tuesday, Ahmed Hachani arrived in Algeria at the head of a high-ranking ministerial delegation, for his first visit abroad since his appointment to this post at the beginning of last August.
