According to Sofiรจne Hmissi, the Minister of Communication Technologies, 5G will officially be launched in January 2025. This statement was made today in an interview with Mosaรฏque FM.
This announcement comes three weeks after the opening of financial offers submitted by the three public telecommunications network operators, Tunisie Telecom, Ooredoo Tunisie, and Orange Tunisie, which was the final step in the process for granting 5G licenses in Tunisia.
Sofiรจne Hmissi has repeatedly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sticking to the schedule set before the tender was launched, which will enable the deployment of 5G services as planned.
Back in June, a restricted ministerial council had approved the proposed roadmap for the deployment of 5G in Tunisia and decided to establish a committee tasked with preparing the preliminary steps for license allocation, setting the stage for the commercial launch of 5G services starting in 2025.
It should be noted that Tunisie Telecom, Ooredoo Tunisie, and Orange Tunisie officially submitted their bids on September 23 during a ceremony at the Ministry of ICT in response to the call for tenders for a 5G license.
The rollout of 5G is part of the “state’s strategy for digital territorial planning,” aiming to enhance digital infrastructure and expand ultra-high-speed broadband coverage across the country.
The government sees 5G as an essential tool to accelerate digital transformation in various economic sectors.
Compared to 4G, 5G offers significantly faster data download speeds and much lower latency times.
