Clashes between the security forces and dozens of young protesters broke out again on Sunday evening in the governorate of Kasserine, in western Tunisia.
According to the correspondent of the Anadolu Agency, a group of young people burned tires and threw stones at the vehicles of the security forces. The latter retaliated by using tear gas to disperse them.
The security forces continue to pursue protesters in the streets of the governorate, according to the same source.
Tunisia has recently been the scene of several protest movements in the majority of governorates, against a backdrop of social demands linked, essentially, to development and employment.
Unemployed people affected by law n° 38 demonstrated in several governorates against the non-activation of said law by President Kaïs Saïed.
Law n ° 38 deals with the exceptional provisions of assignment in the public sector for persons whose period of unemployment has exceeded 10 years.
On July 29, 2020, the Tunisian Parliament approved the finance bill for the year 2021, which provides for the exceptional assignment of holders of higher degrees, unemployed for 10 years.
On August 16 of the same year, President Saïed signed the law and ordered its publication in the Official Gazette, to become one of the laws in force in the state, pending its implementation.
A few days ago, Saïed declared, during his meeting with the Minister of Employment and a group of unemployed people, that this law was put in place “as a tool of governance in order to contain the anger of the protesters and sell dreams, not to be implemented”, noting that no regulations have been issued to implement it.
