Tunisia: In What Capacity Did Kaïs Saïed Meet Abdelbari Atwan?

The President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed should have received the UN special rapporteur on the human rights to drinking water and sanitation, who carried out an official mission to Tunisia from July 18 to 29, 2022.

The latter would have given him a report on what he needs to know about the water problem in our country and the means of avoiding drinking water cuts in the middle of the summer heat wave. Too bad that instead of addressing the vital problems of Tunisians, the Head of State has his head elsewhere… (Illustration: Abdelbari Atwan received on November 28, 2019, by President Kaïs Saïed).

Indeed, Mr. Saïed who, after three years in power, has never designed to meet a single Tunisian journalist (perhaps he thinks that they are all corrupt), preferred to meet, on July 28, for an hour and forty minutes, on the Carthage Palace, moreover face to face, the Palestinian journalist Abdelbari Atwan, a populist impostor, who falsely passes himself off as an Arab nationalist, an anti-Zionist and an anti-American. And it was the latter who reported the content of this meeting in a video he posted on social networks on Friday.

Israeli money

Mr. Saïed, an Arab nationalist and notorious anti-Zionist, does not know that Mr. Atwan had his former daily Al-Quds Al-Araby financed, if only in part, by an Israeli businessman residing in Jerusalem, thanks to a legal subterfuge allowing to erase the traces and to dissipate the suspicions on this very dubious collaboration.

The Israeli was renting premises in London at an exorbitant price from a company owned by Mr. Atwan, and in return, the director of Al-Quds Al-Araby published a whole page of articles daily in leading Israeli newspapers. The operation lasted a good fifteen years, until the sale of the newspaper to the State of Qatar, which uses it today for its propaganda and for that of the Muslim Brotherhood which it supports and finance, and who are supposed to be Mr. Atwan’s sworn enemies.

Worse still: this fake nationalist and real impostor received the articles of Israeli journalists translated from Hebrew to Arabic and published them as they were, without any commentary, in the name of a so-called “better knowledge of the Zionist enemy.

The pot of roses was revealed a few years ago by another Palestinian journalist based in the United States, but it takes more to silence Mr. Atwan who loves the company of terrorists (he had interviewed Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan) and dictators, from Saddam Hussein to Zine El Abidine Ben Ali via Muammar Gaddafi, to praise them for cold hard cash.

Political amateurism

For the anecdote, but not only, but we also heard Mr. Atwan, on the evening of the July 25 referendum, defend the new Tunisian constitution and praise the Tunisian president on the Wataniya 1 channel. Tunis at the invitation of the Tunisian authorities. But that’s a problem…

In what capacity did Mr. Saïed meet Mr. Atwan? The latter has no clear function today. He is no longer a journalist, but a simple annuitant who grows his small fortune by investing in real estate in London. However, a President of the Republic, who embodies the State he heads and the people who elected him, is supposed to meet only public figures who are qualified and who represent countries or recognized institutions. And to meet them publicly, not in secret. The latter do not have the right to report, what is more, on social networks, the content of the discussions they had with the Head of State who met them without the prior authorization of the latter.

How far are we going to go in this political amateurism which is losing our country?

Need we recall, by way of conclusion, that all the greats of this world that Mr. Atwan has approached have all ended very badly?
