Tunisia Hosts the Multilateral Naval Exercise PHOENIX EXPRESS 24 from November 4 to 15

Tunisia will host the PHOENIX EXPRESS 24 multilateral naval exercise from November 4 to 15, in collaboration with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). The exercise will see the participation of 1,100 soldiers and observers from 12 countries, namely Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Turkey, Italy, Malta, Belgium, Georgia, the United States, along with Tunisia, the host nation.

In a statement released on Friday, November 1, the Tunisian Ministry of National Defense announced that nine military ships will dock along the northern coast of Tunisia to take part in this exercise. “The objective is to strengthen cooperation and coordination between naval crews, train their members in the use of maritime equipment, and enhance their capabilities in combating illicit activities at sea, such as smuggling and human trafficking, to ensure the security and stability of the Mediterranean,” the statement elaborated.

Alongside the main exercise, theoretical courses and practical workshops will also be held for the participants, covering various maritime fields including ship visits and inspections, diving techniques, maritime intelligence, countermeasures against biological and chemical weapons, medical support, first aid, and maritime laws.
