Tunisia Hopes to Double the Number of Chinese Tourists in 2024

โ€œThe Chinese tourist market is a strategic market for Tunisia,โ€ declared Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Mohamed Moez Belhassine, at the opening of the African regional conference of the World Federation of Tourist Cities (WTCF), in Hammamet.

The minister also announced that the national company Tunisair plans to launch a direct flight between Tunisia and China in 2024, โ€œwhich should make it possible to double the number of Chinese tourists from 30,000 to more than 60,000โ€.

Tunisia, which is hosting the conference for the first time under the theme โ€œProspects for a new Sino-African tourism cooperationโ€, is hosting a major tourism event.

More than 200 participants from China and African countries are present, representing the media, tourism professionals, and tour operators. โ€œIt is an opportunity to strengthen Tunisian-Chinese relations, to promote Tunisia as a tourist destination, and to strengthen ties between tourism professionals from the two countries,โ€ Belhassine said.

The minister stressed that โ€œTunisia can be a distinctive and attractive destination for Chinese tourists, thanks to its spectacular nature, its archaeological sites, its important heritage and its cultural wealth, which meet the requirements of the Chinese tourist when choosing a destination”.

The responsibility for promoting this cultural heritage falls on the various players in the tourism sector, who must intensify their efforts to modernize tourist facilities and offer the best services, particularly in terms of hospitality and food quality.

As for the agreements concluded on the sidelines of the meeting, Belhassine stressed that most of them aimed to improve promotion programs for the Chinese market and increase access to Tunisia through Tunisair.

This includes increasing the number of visits to Tunisia by Chinese professionals, media, and influencers, as well as digital promotion and marketing of the Tunisian destination.
