Ghazi Chaouachi announced his resignation from the Democratic Current party (Attayar) in a post published on his Facebook page today, Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
“It is a party dear to my heart, which I helped to found with a group of the best activists, women, and men, for whom I have the greatest respect and admiration, despite my differences of opinion with them in many phases.
“During the whole period that I have spent in the party, whether in the general secretariat or within its structures, I have been faithful to my principles and my commitments, and active as much as possible.
“I have also tried to contribute to the success of this social democratic party project born of the Tunisian revolution which defends rights and freedoms and seeks to establish a strong and just state, a state of law, institutions, and justice.
“Today, I leave the Democratic Movement in the difficult and exceptional circumstances that our country is going through, because, in my opinion, the framework no longer provides the necessary tools to contribute to the resolution of the serious crisis that Tunisia is going through.
“I will continue to take care of public affairs by helping to broaden the horizon so that the search for solutions is at the center of all thought and action.
“I will be as I have always been, according to my convictions, at the disposal of the country and at its service, free from all constraints and partisan obligations, in order to contribute, even in a small part, to save our country from the collapse and get it back quickly and again on the democratic path on solid foundations.
“I remain firmly convinced that the establishment of common bases among all Tunisians and the development of a roadmap including the necessary reforms at all levels is a national duty incumbent on everyone for the success of the rescue process and of reform, then the realization of the aspirations of Tunisian men and women for a decent life, for freedom and for democracy.”
