Tunisia: Five-Day Strike by Tunisian Staff at the French Embassy

The strike should begin Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. and will concern the agents of the French diplomatic representation, the consulate, and all associated services in Tunisia.

The Tunisian staff of the French Embassy, โ€‹โ€‹the consulate, and all associated services in Tunisia, will begin a five-day strike, which will be observed in person, from October 7, 2021.

This decision comes in protest against the measures announced aimed at the deduction at the source of the salaries of agents under local law from January 2022, according to the strike notice of local recruits from Tunisia, consulted by the Anadolu Agency.

The strike was voted in the general assembly on September 20, 2021, while local recruits from Tunisia had filed a strike notice on September 22 in the name of the French Ambassador to Tunisia.

In addition, the staff representatives in question “called for a return to social dialogue in the context of discussions, proposals and listening to salary situations already threatened by the loss of purchasing power, preservation of achievements, as well as a complete revision of the measures announced with unique and undifferentiated support for all the agents attached to the embassy and its associated services”, we read in the text of the said notice.
