In 2022, Tunisia again fell in the fight against corruption in the public sector. The anti-corruption organization Transparency International lowers Tunisia by four ranks to place it 85th out of 180 countries with a score of 40 out of 100. The country nevertheless remains the seventh least corrupt country among Arab-Muslim countries and also occupies the seventh place in the African panorama.

The level of perception of corruption in Arab-Muslim countries
The Arab Emirates is the least corrupt country in the Arab world, ranking 27th in the world with a score of 67 out of 100. However, the petromonarchy fell two places in 2022 compared to 2021. Qatar is the second Arab country to display the most limited corruption by ranking 40th in the general nomenclature through a score of 58 out of 100. Saudi Arabia (54th) follows and manages to overtake Jordan (61st). The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman are tied for 69th place and do better than Kuwait (77th). Tunisia (85th) is the seventh least corrupt Arab country and manages to do better than the Cherifian monarchy, Morocco (94th) and Algeria (116th). Egypt closes the Arab TOP 10 by placing 130th out of 180 countries in the world.
The organization points out that the average for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region fell on the Corruption Perceptions Index in 2022, hitting a low of 38 out of 100 after coming to a head. dead for years.
After years of stagnation, the drop in the index should be a wake-up call to undertake urgent reforms and protect fundamental rights and freedoms across the region.
African countries where corruption is the least widespread
The least corrupt African countries are Botswana and Cape Verde, which rank 35th in the world after obtaining a score of 60 out of 100. Rwanda (54th) is second and manages to beat Mauritius (57th) and the Namibia (59th). Senegal, South Africa, Benin and Ghana are the fifth least corrupt African countries, ranking tied for 72nd place.
Burkina Faso (77th) follows suit by being less corrupt than Tunisia (85th). Ethiopia, Morocco and Tanzania all occupy the 85th position without the international ranking. Côte d’Ivoire and Lesotho are 99th, followed by Gambia and Malawi both ranked 110th.
It should be noted that the Corruption Perceptions Index lists the perception of corruption in the public sector of 180 countries based on estimates by scientific and economic experts. Transparency International confirms that corruption is still widespread around the world. Indeed, two thirds of the countries examined would not even have reached the average.
