The Tunisian General Labor Union calls for “clarifying the political vision, tracing a path for an authentic restoration of the process and removing the ambiguity which prevails on the general situation in the country”.
The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) on Wednesday called on the country’s president, Kaïs Saïed, to present a roadmap that puts an end to the state of emergency and removes the ambiguity that prevails over the general situation in the country.
This is what emerges from a statement published by the central trade union, at the end of the meeting of its administrative commission in the city of Hammamet (governorate of Nabeul – north-east), and consulted by the Anadolu Agency.
Tunisia has been in the throes of an acute political crisis since July 25. On that date, President Kaïs Saïed had taken a series of exceptional measures, notably suspending the work of Parliament and lifting the immunity enjoyed by deputies.
He had also abrogated the Body for the Control of the Constitutionality of Laws and decided to legislate by presidential decrees, just as he dismissed from his post the head of government, Hichem Mechichi, thus taking the head of the executive, assisted by a government whose head he appointed in the person of the academic Najla Bouden.
In its press release, the UGTT calls for “clarifying the political vision, tracing a path for an authentic restoration of the process and removing the ambiguity that prevails over the general situation in the country”. It is also a question of “drawing up a road map that puts an end to the state of emergency, sets out prospects, so as to create the conditions conducive to stability and work for the construction of democracy”.
The union reiterated its “total rejection of any foreign interference in Tunisia’s internal affairs”.
The main trade union in the country reiterated its position concerning “the imperative to hold a real national dialogue under conditions and criteria which exclusively take into consideration the interest of the country”.
“The Tunisian administration must be kept away from political tensions, any instrumentalization for partisan ends and attempts to subjugate the executive power”, insisted the UGTT.
Earlier on Wednesday, UGTT Deputy Secretary-General Hfaiedh Hfaiedh said that “the trade union center is committed to the establishment of a clear roadmap which sets the deadlines for the exceptional measures and the next ones. electoral deadlines”.
The majority of Tunisian political forces reject Saïed’s decisions, which it considers to be “a coup against the Constitution”, while other parties support them, believing that it is a “restoration of the Revolution process” of 2011, which had deposed the regime of the former president, Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.
