According to the correspondent of the Anadolu Agency, dozens of people demonstrated in front of the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior, denouncing the “repressive practices of the security forces”.
Clashes erupted Saturday between security forces and demonstrators in the center of the capital, Tunis, amid the death of a young man in detention and the assault of another in the popular district of Sidi Hassine, in the west of the capital.
The family of the young man, “Ahmed”, accuses the security forces of having caused the death of their son, after his arrest Tuesday, while the Ministry of the Interior did not specify the causes of this death.
The correspondent of the Anadolu Agency reported that dozens of Tunisians gathered in front of the headquarters of the Tunisian Interior Ministry during a demonstration, to denounce what they described as “repressive practices of the security forces”, after the death of a young man in Sidi Hassine, in the west of the capital, on Tuesday.
The demonstration took as its starting point the Municipal Theater in the center of the capital, before taking Avenue Habib Bourguiba, where the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior is located, at the invitation of the Workers’ Party (far left / not represented in Parliament), with the participation of activists from social movements and human rights, in the midst of a massive presence of the police.
Protesters chanted slogans such as: “Learn to swim!”, “Down with police repression … Down with the executioners of the people!”, “Freedom, freedom … Down with the police state! And “Our children are victims at the hands of the police!”
The correspondent of the Anadolu Agency added that clashes between the protesters and the police began, as soon as a number of young people from the popular district of Sidi Hassine joined the demonstration in the center of the capital, Tunis.
On Friday, the demonstrations continued for the fourth consecutive night, in Sidi Hassine, west of Tunis, following the death of young “Ahmed” on Tuesday.
By means of a statement released on Friday, the Tunisian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of the police officers who attacked and naked another young man on Wednesday.
