At the crossroads of innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the world.
And as AI learns to become โsmarterโ, Tunisia must learn to take advantage of it and explore the opportunities it offers to improve its economic competitiveness and key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and financial services.
For now, Tunisia is doing well, even better than many countries in the world.
Oxford Insights’ Government AI Readiness Index 2022 report ranks 181 countries based on 39 indicators. According to the indicators of the consulting firm specialized in artificial intelligence, Tunisia occupies the 4th place on the continental scale and the 70th on the world scale, ahead of all the other Maghreb countries. Tunisia also obtained the highest score in the โData & infrastructureโ category.
At this stage alone, recent advances in the field of AI have already enabled Tunisian companies to position themselves as leaders in the AI โโecosystem in Africa.
AI: the new industrial revolution in Tunisia
Indeed, Tunisia has made significant progress in research on AI, in particular thanks to the increase in the number of research centers and universities dedicated to this discipline. The country has also set up a Tunisian Association for Artificial Intelligence (ATIA).
Tunisia is experiencing a significant increase in the number of AI start-ups that have successfully raised funds to develop their technologies. We can notably cite Instadeep which has conquered the world or GoMyCode, Birou Suite, and many others.
Agriculture is one of the sectors where AI has the most potential in Tunisia. Tunisian companies are already using drones to monitor crops and sensors to track weather conditions. AI can also help optimize production processes and improve the quality of agricultural products. For the health sector, local companies are developing data analysis tools to help doctors diagnose diseases faster and more accurately. Tunisian researchers are also exploring ways to use AI to improve the quality of life for people with chronic conditions.
Thus, with its young talents, Tunisia will be able to propel itself on a global scale.
