Tunisia: A Major Regional Player in the Cosmetics Industry

The cosmetics industry in Tunisia is highly dynamic, cosmopolitan, and has a significant growth potential.

The high demand is driven not only by consumption but also by the supply from local businesses. The national supply is increasingly popular and gaining significant market share. However, the market is still dominated by well-known foreign brands that are in high demand among consumers.

Tunisia, a Regional Player

According to indicators, the cosmetics sector generates 1.77 billion Tunisian dinars (TND) (equivalent to 530 million Euros) in revenue, representing 1.6% of the national GDP. It contributes to the creation of approximately 20,000 direct and indirect jobs. The sector also achieves export revenues, although the coverage rate remains at only about 60%.

In this promising context of sector development, Tunisia shone at the third edition of the “Cosmetica North Africa Algeria” fair held from January 22 to 25, 2025, at the SAFEX exhibition center in Algiers. This event is a must-attend for cosmetics industry players, attracting 250 exhibitors this year, including 75 international companies.

The event positions itself as a strategic platform for discovering market trends, building commercial ties, and exploring new opportunities.

Among the many participants, Tunisia distinguished itself notably through the presence of four innovative companies, showcasing the diversity and excellence of Tunisian cosmetics, with a broad range of products from sophisticated fragrances to natural cosmetics, and certified makeup and wellness solutions.

These companies also stood out for the originality and quality of their products, using cutting-edge packaging like laminated metal-plastic tubes, demonstrating Tunisian expertise in advanced technology and innovative solutions.

Multiple Opportunities

In a highly competitive context, particularly in the Algerian market, the fair highlights numerous opportunities for suppliers of raw materials, specialized inputs, and innovative packaging, which are still developing sectors in the country. This is an ideal showcase for Tunisian businesses aiming to establish themselves as strategic partners in a region where innovation and craftsmanship are key advantages.

By showcasing their technical skills and creative spirit, Tunisian companies reaffirm their position as key players in the North African cosmetics industry while strengthening partnerships and fostering mutual cooperation with Algerian companies.

A Thriving Global Industry

The cosmetics industry encompasses all manufacturers of products used for body care, beauty, and personal hygiene. This includes perfumes, shampoos, gels, makeup, toothpaste, sunscreens, mousses, dyes, etc. These are hygiene, hair, and cosmetic products.

According to figures, in 2023, the global beauty market grew by 10%, reaching $446 billion. It is expected to reach $590 billion by 2028, with an annual growth rate of 6%. This steady growth is influenced by dynamics such as the increasing allure of fragrances and skincare, the balance between mass-market and premium products, and the evolution of physical and e-commerce channels.
