Tunisia: 4 Mining Concessions Canceled and 2 New Ones Granted

The Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy in Tunisia has made several decisions regarding mining concessions, including the cancellation of four and the granting of two new concessions in the fourth category of mineral products. Additionally, new permits and concessions have been issued in the fifth and sixth categories. Here’s an overview of the recent decisions:

Cancellation of Four Mining Concessions in the Fourth Category The ministry announced the cancellation of four mining concessions in the fourth category, located in strategic areas of the country:

  • Bir Mqabla (Tataouine Governorate)
  • Oued Sabatt (Tataouine Governorate)
  • Jebel Hachana (Tataouine Governorate)
  • Oued Chaqa (Gafsa Governorate)

These cancellations were published in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) No. 4 of 2025, specifying the geographical limits of the concessions involved.

Granting of Two New Concessions in the Fourth Category Two new mining concessions in the fourth category of mineral products have been granted:

  • Sabkhat Sidi El Hani Nord: Located in the Sousse Governorate, this concession covers a strategic area rich in mineral resources.
  • Sabkhat Sidi El Hani Sud: This concession extends over both the Sousse and Mahdia Governorates, enhancing mining operations in the region.

New Exploration Permits in the Fifth Category On January 10, 2025, the ministry also issued exploration permits for minerals in the fifth category. The permit named Skarna covers the Kef and Siliana Governorates, aiming to boost mineral resource exploration and exploitation in these areas.

Establishment of Mining Concessions in the Sixth Category Finally, the ministry decided to establish two new concessions in the sixth category to expand mining possibilities in specific regions:

  • Oued El Kousha (Gabรจs Governorate)
  • Jebel El Marfaq (Sidi Bouzid Governorate)

These decisions were confirmed by a decree published on December 26, 2024, supporting the expansion of mining activities in these regions of Tunisia.

This restructuring of mining rights reflects Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to manage its mineral resources efficiently and sustainably.
