Tunis Hosts the 3rd Forum of Renewable Energy in Africa

Tunis will host, on November 6 and 7, 2024, the third edition of the Renewable Energy Forum in Africa (Refa), which aims to promote investments in renewable energies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The event is co-organized by the International Energy Transition Exhibition (Site), the African Solar Industry Association (Afsia), the Photovoltaic Trade Union Chamber (CSPV) under the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Crafts (Utica), the Middle East Solar Industry Association (Mesia) and SolarPower Europe.

More than 100 exhibitors from the Tunisian and global electricity industry will participate in the forum and present their latest products and solutions, organizers say. Discussions are also planned on advances in solar energy, green hydrogen, electric mobility, wind energy, geothermal energy, hydropower, and energy storage.

CSPV President Ali Kenzari highlighted Tunisia’s strong solar potential, adding that our country “seeks to increase the share of renewable energy to 50% of its energy mix by 2035, reduce its carbon intensity by 46%, and achieve carbon neutrality with an energy mix of 80 % renewable by 2050.” He added that Refa, as an investment and innovation platform, will bring together key industry players, including policymakers, investors, and project developers, to highlight financing and innovation opportunities.

Asia Executive Director John Frederick van Zuylen spoke about Tunisia’s ambitious program, recalling that Africa needs to invest around $70 billion in renewable energy to achieve its 2030 goals, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
