Four memorandums of understanding between Tunisian and Japanese companies were announced on Saturday August 27, 2022 during the Business Forum held as part of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad 8), which is being held from August 27 to 28. August in Tunis.
These agreements relate to the facilitation of partnership between the public and private sectors, the implementation of a joint project for the development of insurance in Tunisia, the study of the possibility of water desalination and the production of renewable energy with Sonede and Toyota, as well as in the field of digital telecommunications.
Tunisia also signed on Saturday at the Palais des Congrès two framework cooperation agreements with Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau to develop bilateral cooperation relations in the economic, technical, scientific and cultural fields, the agency said. Tap the Ticad 8 media coordinator, Mohamed Trabelsi, who recalled that the Japanese government has given its agreement in principle to grant Tunisia a loan of 100 million dollars (about 321 million dinars) to finance the policies of development, as part of the Covid-19 social protection emergency response project, saying that the agreement will only be final after the completion of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Shinichi Nakatani said 92 MoUs were signed between Japanese and African companies on the sidelines of the forum. The African companies involved operate in countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mauritius, Namibia, Angola, Senegal, Uganda, South Africa South and DR Congo.
The memoranda reached covered digitalization, agriculture, renewable energy, green hydrogen, school construction, green economy, services, electronics industry, road signs and digital technology. They also covered the metals, oil and gas sectors as well as strengthening African-Japanese relations and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
