Israel attended the 2022 edition as an international military observer, without its soldiers participating in field exercises
A delegation of 12 soldiers and commanders from the elite unit of the IDF Golani Brigade landed on Sunday, June 4, 2023 in Morocco, to participate in the international military exercise “African Lion 2023”, according to the Israeli media Jerusalem Post which quotes the spokesman for the IDF unit.
This is the first time that the Israel Defense Forces has participated in this exercise, the media continues.
Over the next two weeks, the soldiers of the Golani Brigade will focus on a series of diverse combat challenges.
They will encompass urban warfare tactics, honing their skills in asymmetric warfare (armed conflict that pits a regular army against irregular forces) and specialized โundergroundโ operations, the same source said.
The training will culminate in a joint exercise involving all participating forces, where they will consolidate their collective training experiences.
The Saudi media Al Arabiya also returned to the participation of the Israeli army in the African Lion 2023.
Quoting a statement from the Tsahal, published this Monday evening, Al Arabiya recalls that “This is the first time that the Israeli army has actively participated in this large-scale international military exercise, organized by Morocco and the United States and which will experience the participation of 8,000 soldiers from 18 countriesโ.
Recall that Israel had participated in the 2022 edition of the African Lion, as an international military observer, without its soldiers having participated in field exercises.
