The Great Prostitution Market Behind the Colonial Empire in Morocco

France 3 is broadcasting this Monday, October 4 at 9:05 pm, a new documentary entitled, โ€œColonization, Une Histoire Franรงaiseโ€. It is a foray into the colonial empire to bring out gray areas linked to the sex market in both Morocco and Algeria.

โ€œColonization, a French Historyโ€, is a documentary directed by Hugues Nancy. Real research that traces the place of depravity and others in the colonial empire. In Morocco, the director evokes the district of Bousbir, in Casablanca, which was only a high place of prostitution. This fortress would have been born from “the will of the authorities to fight against the propagation of the venereal diseases”. Inside the fortress, there are “sex workers” made available to whites. They only went out once a week, reports huffingtonpost.fr.

โ€œTo occupy and rule these territories, you have to bring in men, soldiers, or administrators. And we use this sordid engine of access to certain advantages, including a sexual exoticism at hand,โ€ says the director. “As if it was absolutely necessary to dominate the body to show that we dominate the country,” he says.

To make his documentary, Hugues Nancy relied on the work of historians including Marc Ferro and Pascal Blanchard. He claimed that a neighborhood like Casablanca was built in all colonial capitals.

“Colonization, a French history,” tells the story of the colonial occupation from the point of view of the colonizers and the colonized. It’s this Monday on France 3.
