During his meeting with the head of business management of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Investment, Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, Marcus Cornaro, Ambassador of the European Union in Tunisia, today reaffirmed the support from the European Union to Tunisia, especially in this exceptional situation.
This is at the level of sectoral programs and within the framework of budget support as well as with international donors.
Ms. Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia recalled, on this occasion, Tunisia’s commitment to put in place the necessary reforms to strengthen the competitiveness of the Tunisian economy and achieve better social prosperity. In this sense, she underlined the importance of supporting Tunisia’s partners at a faster pace at bilateral and multilateral levels, primarily the European Union.
“The exceptional and cyclical situation through which Tunisia is going does not represent a brake on setting up the cooperation program. The action of the various State structures is continuing at the usual pace,” she added.
According to the ministry, “the head of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Investment also wanted to highlight the progress made with regard to the preparation of the LFC 2021 and the LF 2021.”
In order to help Tunisia cope with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the worrying health situation in Tunisia, the European Union, and its Member States have continued to mobilize emergency aid channeled through the EU civil protection mechanism.
As a reminder, several Member States responded to Tunisia’s request. Nearly 1.3 million doses of vaccine and nearly 8 million face masks, as well as antigen tests, respirators, oxygen concentrators, hospital beds, and other vital medical equipment, have already been delivered. In addition, a Romanian medical team arrived in Tunis on August 9 to provide additional support.
At the end of July 2021, the High Representative recalled the considerable support of the European Union and its member states to Tunisia in the context of a major pandemic and economic crisis.
