The countdown has begun for the 2024 CAF Awards, an exceptional celebration dedicated to the iconic figures of African football. In just six days, Marrakech, the cultural gem of Morocco, will host this prestigious ceremony, honoring the most remarkable players, coaches, and teams on the continent. This event will take place on Monday, December 16, at the magnificent Palais des Congrès, with proceedings starting at 7:00 PM local time (6:00 PM GMT / 8:00 PM Cairo time / 9:00 PM East African time).
The best experts in African football have voted to select the most illustrious names across various categories for both men and women. The awards will include the prestigious titles of Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Young Player of the Year.
In the Men’s Player of the Year category, an initial selection of 30 exceptional talents has been narrowed down to five finalists, with the final three contenders to be revealed in the week leading up to the ceremony.
Among the past winners who have left their mark on African football history are Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon) and Yaya Touré (Ivory Coast), each crowned four times, as well as George Weah (Liberia) and Abedi Pelé (Ghana), each honored three times.
In the women’s category, Nigerian Asisat Oshoala leads with six awards, surpassing her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha, who has four.
