The BBC Investigates the Controversy Caused by the Opening of a Starbucks Café in Oran

DIA-September 22, 2023: The opening this week of a coffee shop of the large American franchise “Starbucks” in the wilaya of Oran has sparked great controversy to the point that the English channel BBC in its Arabic version is carrying out a subject in its “trending” section

Many Oranese rushed to the place to discover and taste the services of this coffee shop, but above all to confirm whether it is indeed the real Starbucks franchise or a simple copy. Some even wrote to the Starbucks franchise to confirm the installation of the American franchise in Algeria. The response was negative.

The BBC channel took the same step and wrote to the American franchise in London. The latter also denied any opening of a Starbucks in Algeria.

The franchise then released an official statement on its social media pages, stating that no Starbucks coffee shop has opened in Oran or elsewhere in Algeria.

In the meantime, the Starbucks in Oran is a hit, it closed two consecutive days 3 hours before normal closing, because it still cannot manage the hundreds of people who come to have their coffee in its space. It remains to know the reaction of the Oran trade management on this matter and to avoid a legal case in international courts.
