Textile: Morocco Aims to Increase Exports to 50 Billion Dh

Morocco aims to increase textile exports to 50 billion dirhams (MMDH), said Monday in the House of Representatives, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.

In response to an oral question on “the future of the textile sector” posed by the Group of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), Mezzour stressed that textile exports reached 44 billion dirhams in 2022, a historic level compared to in 2018 (36 billion dirhams).

The textile sector, which has 1,600 companies, achieved a turnover of 60 billion dirhams in 2022, he continued, adding that 173 investment projects are currently underway to improve the integration of the sector and the conform to the requirements of world markets.

Responding to another question on “the implementation of the support program for first-time exporters” presented by the Authenticity and Modernity Group, Mr. Mezzour said that each year a group of first-time entrepreneurs benefit from support on extent, through state support, adding that their number rose to 40 in 2022, while 100 other first-time entrepreneurs will be supported this year.

This figure remains “insufficient”, estimated the minister, noting that his Department aims to increase the number of beneficiaries to nearly 1,000 people.

In this regard, Mr. Mezzour revealed that the government is developing a new “Tasdircom” program, which will support not only first-time entrepreneurs, but also “all categories of exporters to strengthen export capacity around 120 billion dirhams”.
