Sputnik V vaccine: Algeria will receive 500,000 doses in May and June

The Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Igor Beliaev, revealed this Friday, may 7, 2021, that new shipments of Sputnik vaccine will soon arrive in Algeria during the months of May and June.

On the sidelines of the closing exhibition of the sale of traditional Algerian artistic products for the diplomatic corps in Algeria, the diplomat declared that Algeria had not received all the doses of the Sputnik V vaccine planned: “We have already received a certain number of doses and we are working as best as possible to ensure that there will be more expeditions during the months of May and June to meet the request of our Algerian friends ”declared the Russian ambassador adding that “the contract with Algeria provides for the acquisition of 500,000 doses”.

Algeria received approximately one million and 400,000 doses of Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccines, the order reception process was carried out according to the contracts that the government has concluded with international laboratories and those linked to the convex program.

Algeria experiences increasing trend in the number of infections compared to previous weeks

The minister of the pharmaceutical industry, Lotfi ben Ahmad, announced in September that Algeria would start producing, in partnership with Moscow, the Russian vaccine “

Sputnik V” in order to stem the pandemic.

He added that the vaccine will be produced in cooperation with pharmaceutical company SAIDAL, indicating that the company will receive assistance from an Indian laboratory specializing in the manufacture of vaccines.

Algeria is indeed experiencing an upward trend in the number of infections compared to previous weeks when it had decreased considerably. according to figures revealed by the ministry of health, population, and hospital reform, 201 new cases of coronavirus and 8 deaths were recorded this Thursday, May 6. The total number of confirmed cases has reached 124,473, while the total number of recoveries has reached 8,6007 and the total number of deaths is 3,307 people. According to the same source, 23 patients are currently in intensive care.
