Spain: Guardia Civil Arrests Algerian for Human Trafficking and Terrorism

The Spanish Guardia Civil announced the arrest of an Algerian suspected of leading a gang smuggling human beings from North Africa to Europe and sending fighters to jihadist groups in Libya.

The intelligence services of the Guardia Civil arrested the man on the night of July 31 on the island of Mallorca. The respondent, whose name has not been disclosed, was using several identity documents for his trips. He is suspected of having facilitated the departure of jihadist fighters to Libya from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia, using the income from the gang’s human trafficking activities, explain the Spanish services.

Authorities also suspect the organization of sending terrorists from Algeria to Spain, and some of them have been arrested, according to the Guardia Civil. Interpol and Algeria cooperated in the arrest of the respondent.
