The Soummam dairy has announced the start of work for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in the industrial zone of Taharacht, in Akbou. This initiative was taken to recycle the wastewater produced by its two production units located in the region.

In a press release made public yesterday, Tuesday, the Soummam dairy announces the construction of a station aimed at purifying all the wastewater produced daily by the production facilities, so that it meets the standards established by Executive Decree No. 06- 141 of April 19, 2006 concerning discharges of industrial liquid effluents.
Once treated, this water can be discharged into the natural environment or reused for irrigation of agricultural projects such as arboriculture, the statement said. According to a dairy manager, the construction of this treatment plant has recently received the building permit from the competent authorities, which allowed the first earthworks to begin immediately.

The company has also acquired 2.5 hectares of land adjacent to its two production sites, which will house all of the station’s equipment. Purchased from the German company Envirochemie GMBH, which specializes in wastewater treatment plants, the industrial water treatment and recycling facilities cost the company 2.8 million euros.
According to the technical information provided, the station, of the Biomar type, will include the following modules: a sieve for the separation of solid particles, a pumping station at the entrance, a storage basin, a Flomar flotation unit using air dissolved to separate suspended fats, a Biomar OBR aerobic reactor to convert and remove organic matter, and a decanter for sludge dewatering.
Soummam embarks on the collection of fresh milk, a network of breeders set up
Founded in 1993, the Soummam dairy celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. The company has two main factories with a production capacity of 1,800,000 tons per year and offers more than 180 references of fresh products in its four areas of activity: yogurts and desserts, milk drinks, UHT milk and cheeses.
The Soummam dairy has also embarked on an ambitious program of production and collection of fresh milk in order to reduce its dependence on the import of milk powder, or even do without it altogether in the long term.
Its fresh milk collection network, which covers almost the entire national territory with the exception of the Great South, includes 6,500 partner breeders and makes it possible to collect between 600,000 and 800,000 liters of milk per day depending on the time of year. . Once received at the factory, the fresh milk is processed and used as a raw material in 25% of the company’s products.
