Sanctions Against Russia: Morocco Maintains Its Position at the UN

Morocco still keeps its position of neutrality at the UN in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. On Thursday, the kingdom was absent in the vote which suspended Russia’s membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

In this vote, 93 UN members voted in favor of the resolution to suspend Russia’s membership of the Human Rights Council, against 24 and 58 nations abstained and 18 did not take part. take part in the vote.

This is the third time that Morocco has chosen neutrality on a resolution regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, in line with the kingdom’s non-interference approach in the conflict.

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that “the Kingdom of Morocco has always worked to promote the non-use of force for the settlement of disputes between States. It calls for the continuation and intensification of dialogue and negotiation between the parties to put an end to this conflict and encourages all initiatives and actions to this end”.

Among the countries that voted against the decision are China, Iran, Syria, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Cuba, including Belarus and Russia itself.
