President Tebboune: Improvement of the Country’s Financial Situation

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune met Sunday evening in Ankara (Turkey) representatives of the national community established in Turkey, on the sidelines of the State visit he is making to this country at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During this meeting, President Tebboune listened to the concerns and proposals of representatives of the Algerian diaspora in Turkey and answered their questions concerning the situation in Algeria and the state of Algerian-Turkish relations, reports the APS agency.

Improvement of the financial situation of Algeria

With regard to Algeria’s economic situation, President Tebboune wanted to reassure the members of the national community established in Turkey about “the improvement of the country’s financial situation”, which has made it possible to move away external debt from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

“Thanks to the conscience of Algerians, the country is moving away day after day from the scenarios imagined by certain parties which were sowing despair and counting on recourse to debt in 2020”, said President Tebboune.

Foreign exchange reserves exceed $42 billion

In this context, the Head of State reported an improvement in the level of foreign exchange reserves which exceed 42 billion USD this year, and the recording of a trade balance surplus reaching 1.5 billion USD. in 2021.

Affirming, in this sense, that the policy of reviving the national economy will continue on solid bases to increase national production and exports and reduce imports, President Tebboune affirmed that Algeria had succeeded in 2021 in increasing the value of non-hydrocarbon exports at more than 5 billion USD, a first for 25 years.

$7 billion in non-hydrocarbon exports in 2022

Algeria is working, continues President Tebboune, to bring the value of non-hydrocarbon exports to 7 billion USD in 2022, calling, to this end, the national community to contribute to the development of the national economy and to invest in the creation of the wealth.

Highlighting the importance of the relations between the two countries, the President of the Republic affirmed that the relations between Algeria and Turkey are “very solid at all levels, particularly on the economic, political and historical levels”.

President Tebboune affirmed that his visit to Turkey was “necessary”, particularly in view of the remarkable development of bilateral relations over the past two years, highlighting Algeria’s willingness to “develop relations with the Republic of Turkey , brother country, at higher levels”.

Turkey is in the first position in terms of investments in Algeria

The Head of State recalled, at the same time, that Turkey came first in terms of investments in Algeria reaching more than 4 billion USD with a trading volume oscillating between 4 and 5 billion USD per year.

The President of the Republic noted, in this regard, the willingness of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and all Turkish officials to work together with Algeria to increase the value of investments and gain access to the African market.
