The jihadist cell linked to Daesh recently dismantled in Morocco, planned to attack a military border post in order to provoke an armed conflict between the kingdom and Algeria.
In implementing its plan to destabilize the Maghreb, the jihadist cell, which has infrastructure and operations in the Sahel, has targeted Morocco, especially after the restoration of diplomatic relations with Israel.
According to anti-terrorism experts, several Moroccans have joined the camps of Al-Qaeda, Daesh, AQIM in order to receive training in the handling of weapons and explosives, reports La Razon. They will then be sent on a mission to Morocco to carry out terrorist attacks. In this case, these terrorists based in Oujda intended to attack the army, parliament, churches, nightclubs, tourist sites and planned to release jihadist prisoners.
“They planned to attack Moroccan soldiers and steal their weapons for use against Algerian soldiers with the aim of provoking a war between Morocco and Algeria,” say the experts.
The cell also planned to carry out attacks on a bank to finance its activities and attack the interests of the United States, a privileged partner of Morocco.
