The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohamed Ben Salmane known as MBS spoke on Wednesday on the normalization of relations between his country and Israel.
Since the signing of the Abraham Accords between Israel and four Arab countries (Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan), many media regularly report secret talks between Riyadh and Tel Aviv. to establish diplomatic relations.
And for the first time, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia confirmed the existence of these discussions. In an interview with the American channel Fox News, MBS said that the American administration presented a proposal for the establishment of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. He said discussions between his country and Israel “ are serious ” and “ continuing .”
Normalization with Israel: will Saudi Arabia follow?
“ Every day, we are getting closer to establishing relations with Israel,” assured Mohamed Ben Salman, stressing that Saudi Arabia hopes for “ improvement in the living conditions ” of the Palestinians. “ I want to see a new life for the Palestinians,” MBS told Fox News.
The Saudi Crown Prince added that the Palestinian issue was important for establishing relations with Israel.
After the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020 under the Donald Trump administration, Israel made establishing relations with Saudi Arabia its main objective.
For Tel Aviv, this will guarantee peace with the countries of the region, given the significant weight of Saudi Arabia in the Arab and Muslim world.
Last week, the London-based Arabic-language electronic newspaper Elaph.com reported that Saudi Arabia has decided to end discussions on the normalization of relations with Israel, due to the extremist nature of the Israeli government, the most to the right of the history of this country.
This government is pursuing a policy of bloody repression in the Palestinian territories, pursuing a policy of colonization and some of its ministers have made statements going so far as to deny the existence of the Palestinian people.
