News on Algerian Credit and Donation to Tunisia

The amounts of the loan and the donation granted by Algeria to Tunisia under a financial protocol signed in Algiers on December 1 (without any media coverage on both sides) and adopted by the Council of Ministers have, it should be remembered, been published in the JORT, without any precision neither of the amounts nor of the reimbursement deadlines, nor anythingโ€ฆ

The information reported by an Algerian media, Expression, quoting sources whose identity it does not reveal, that “this new Algerian credit is 200 MUSD (million US dollars), or the equivalent of 641.5 MTD (millions of Tunisian dinars).

But according to a reliable Tunisian source, it is rather a donation of 100 million dollars and a deposit of 200 million dollars.

The same source told us that talks are very advanced with Saudi Arabia for a deposit of 400 million dollars and a donation of 100 million dollars.

As for the examination of Tunisia’s file by the IMF, initially scheduled for the 19th current, โ€œit has been postponed in order to give more time to the [Tunisian] authorities to complete the prerequisites required for the program. This includes discussions on a new Board date,โ€ according to an IMF source quoted by Sussex.

However, our source told us that the Tunisian authorities who were called upon to mobilize other resources before signing the contract with the IMF, only managed to mobilize the meager amount mentioned above from Algeria.
