New FIFA Ranking: Algeria Team Gains 5 Places

The FIFA world ranking, which is updated regularly, reveals a notable advance for the Algerian national team. In September, Algeria climbed from 46th to 41st position.

This 5-place progression is the direct result of the Fennecs’ performances during the CAN 2025 qualifiers. Indeed, the Algerian team chained 2 victories during the international break in September. It was on September 5 that Algeria beat Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in Oran, then a few days later Liberia in Monrovia (0-3). These results allowed Algeria to position itself at the top of its group and accumulate valuable points for the FIFA world ranking.

The FIFA ranking system is based on several criteria, including the teams’ recent results, the quality of the opponents faced, and the importance of the matches played. Victories against higher-ranked teams are essential to accumulating points. In this context, Algeria’s recent successes have been crucial to its rise.

Algeria 6th in Africa

Under the leadership of Vladimir Petkovic, the Algerian national team seems to be regaining some stability after the difficult period following the CAN 2023. Algeria ranks 7th at the African level, behind Morocco (14th in the world), Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Nigeria. Cameroon, Mali and DR Congo complete this ranking. South Africa is the one that leaves the top 10 of the best CAF teams by losing a position in favor of DR Congo.

The world ranking, for its part, is mainly dominated by European teams, but Argentina remains at the top of the ranking, followed closely by France and Spain. England and Brazil complete the Top 5. Next come Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia and Italy. This Top 10 is identical to that of July 18.

The next FIFA ranking is scheduled for the end of October. By then, the Algerian selection has a real chance of winning more points to advance in the ranking. Indeed, the Fennecs will face Togo in a round trip as part of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. If the Greens win both matches, they will be able to make another notable advance.
