Statistics from Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) reveal that air traffic at Moroccan airports reached an all-time high by the end of 2024.
Passenger air traffic hit a new record of 32.7 million passengers by the end of 2024, a 21% increase compared to the same period the previous year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) in its latest economic report, citing ONDA data. The DEPF attributes this surge to a 20% rise in international travelers and a 30% increase in domestic passengers.
Recently, ONDA unveiled its new “Airports 2030” strategy, built on three key pillars: infrastructure development, reimagining the customer experience, and transforming ONDA itself. This strategy aims to support the sharp rise in passenger traffic, align with Royal Air Maroc’s (RAM) development plans, and prepare for Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The capacity of the country’s largest airport, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, is expected to grow from 14 million to 35 million passengers by 2029. Other airports, including those in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez, will also undergo major expansions to double their capacities and meet the booming air traffic demand.
Meanwhile, Royal Air Maroc plans to expand its fleet from 50 to 200 aircraft by 2037, with the ambition of becoming a major player in global aviation.
