The GenZ 212 collective organized its sixth day of protests across Morocco on Thursday, October 2, 2025, demanding improved healthcare and education services following a violent night that claimed three lives. The spontaneous, apolitical rallies, held in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir, have drawn tens of thousands of young participants connected through a Discord page with 150,000 members.
Following Wednesday’s incidents, authorities reported that three individuals were killed by the gendarmerie in “self-defense” while attempting to seize weapons in the country’s south. GenZ 212, however, condemned all forms of violence and called for peaceful demonstrations. Chanting “the people want health and education,” the youth have criticized the kingdom’s focus on sports infrastructure, with the movement’s slogan encapsulating their stance: “We want hospitals, not just stadiums.”
Facing mounting social pressure, the government has expressed openness to dialogue. The Health Minister acknowledged that ongoing reforms fall short of addressing the sector’s deficits, while Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch pledged to address the social demands. Wednesday’s violence, attributed to individuals outside the collective, resulted in over 350 injuries—mostly among security forces—and significant damage to vehicles and public and private properties.
