On Sunday morning, Moroccan police pushed back hundreds of would-be irregular migrants at the border post in the Moroccan city of Fnideq, which borders the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Tensions and clashes continued throughout the day.
Yesterday, hundreds of people, mainly Moroccans, including a significant number of minors, as well as nationals of other African countries, attempted to enter the autonomous city of Ceuta, a Spanish territory located on the African continent.
The first of the two separation fences was broken in places, but the migrants did not manage to cross the border.
Calls on the networks
For several days, calls on social networks have encouraged candidates for irregular emigration to gather this Sunday, September 15, near the Fnideq border post to try to reach the Spanish enclave.
On September 11, Moroccan authorities announced that they had arrested 60 people accused of spreading these messages on the web, which they described as ” fake news .” As a result, a major security operation was put in place in the Moroccan city of Fnideq.
Police chased the would-be departees, and some responded with stone-throwing. On the Spanish side, the Guardia Civil also reinforced its presence with riot officers, a helicopter and drones flying over Ceuta. A high-seas patrol boat was sent to monitor the maritime border.ย
According to Moroccan government figures, more than 45,000 migrants have been prevented from entering Spain illegally since the beginning of the year.
