Morocco Uses Israeli Drones for Its Military Operations

Dozens of Israeli drones are already operational in Morocco, reveals the Israeli firm BlueBird Aero systems, a company specializing in air defense, which confirms the order of drones from the Moroccan royal armed forces. In accordance with the series of military agreements between Rabat and Tel Aviv, part of the devices will be manufactured in Morocco.

The Cherifian kingdom has announced its desire to acquire drones at the beginning of 2021. According to a press release from Bluebird Aero Systems, Rabat has acquired 150.

Two models of these drones, Wonder B-VTOL and Thander BVTOL, were exhibited during the Moroccan-American military exercise in disaster management, organized from September 12 to 23 on the military installations of the kingdom, in Kenitra. The manufacturer indicates that these drones could carry out different types of missions: monitoring the border, helping artillery to target targets or even accompanying military convoys.

Used in the fight against the Polisario Front

For nearly two years, the Polisario has accused Morocco of using Israeli drones to strike its militants in Western Sahara. The Morocco Hebdo site, close to the palace, affirmed this summer that the use of Israeli drones gave a “decisive advantage” to Morocco over the Polisario Front.

Israel and Morocco have consolidated their military cooperation by signing a framework agreement in November 2021 which allows Morocco access to training and technology transfer as well as the sharing of experience and expertise.

According to Tel Aviv, since the signing of the Abraham Accord in September 2020, Morocco has purchased weapons from him for an amount of 1.2 billion dollars (about 1.2 billion euros).
