Tens of thousands of cannabis growers in northern Morocco will benefit from a general amnesty and will no longer be prosecuted, according to Maghreb Intelligence, which cites reliable sources.
What was only speculation based on the proposals of a few parties (such as the PAM and Istiqlal) is now almost a given, our sources say. Promises were given in this direction to parliamentarians and cannabis growers, several of whom were received in Parliament at the beginning of this week, indicates the same source.
This amnesty will be the prerequisite for a calm entry into the matter for the legalization of cannabis cultivation for medical and industrial purposes. Legislation and a major project on which the kingdom is counting to boost its economy and explore new outlets with, as a key, economic development and job creation in the regions concerned.
According to studies presented at the beginning of this week to Parliament, by the Ministry of the Interior, whose legalization project bears the signature, cannabis crops currently support 50,000 families and 400,000 people in total. According to official projections, Morocco could, once cannabis cultivation is legalized for medical and industrial purposes, seek 10% of the European market share and a turnover of 4.2 billion dollars per year.
