The President of the European Commission, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in Rabat on Tuesday.
The European official was welcomed at Rabat-Salรฉ airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, according to Apanews.
This is Mrs von der Leyen’s first visit to Morocco in her capacity as President of the European Commission.
โThis visit falls within the context of the bilateral partnership between Morocco and the European Union which the President is, of course, keen to strengthen,โ declared the spokesperson for the European executive, รric Mamer.
Morocco and the EU launched on June 27, 2019, in Brussels the “Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity”, a new statutory framework that governs their bilateral relations.
It revolves around four structuring spaces, namely a Space of Values โโConvergence, a Space of Economic Convergence and Social Cohesion, a Space of Shared Knowledge, and a Space of Political Consultation and Increased Cooperation in Security.
This Framework is based on two fundamental axes of a horizontal nature which will also be the subject of specific operational actions, namely cooperation on the environment and the fight against climate change and cooperation on mobility and migration, which will reinforce each other.
