Deputy Rachid Hamouni, of the parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism, in the House of Representatives, declared that the prices of olive oils are experiencing an unusual and astronomical increase in this season, and this is in all the regions of the Kingdom.
Knowing, recalled the deputy of the party of the Book, that olives and olive oil are essential products, within almost all Moroccan families. And in a written question addressed to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Rachid Hamouni specified that the price of olive oil has doubled, compared to the previous season. , to reach between 70 DH and more than 80 DH/liter.
And to continue that the production of olives has suffered from several factors, including the nature of the water season and the scarcity of rainfall. This has contributed to the obvious reduction in the production of olive trees, especially in the “bour” lands (note, non-irrigated dry cultivation area, mainly dependent on rainfall) and this, is because of the drought that the country is experiencing.
The MP PPSiste also specified that this increase in the price of fertilizers is also the cause which made the agricultures give up using it. And he did not fail either, on this occasion, to wonder about the measures that the supervisory ministry intends to take in order to guarantee reasonable prices for olive oil in the Moroccan markets.
The PPS deputy also wondered about the measures to be taken guaranteeing the protection of the consumer against speculation, cheating, and the shenanigans of certain intermediaries who profit from the high cost of olive oil and the reduction in production. . As he also called for the support of olive growers and the protection of olive trees during the current season.
