Morocco Receives 723 New Buses for AFCON 2025 Preparations

With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 just months away, Morocco is bolstering its transportation infrastructure. Chinese manufacturer Yutong has delivered 723 state-of-the-art buses to support the movement of teams, media, and thousands of fans expected across the six host cities.

On September 12, 2025, the first batch of buses was officially handed over to Morocco. Over 100 technicians and a comprehensive support system will be deployed during the tournament to ensure the fleet operates smoothly. To prove their reliability, Yutong subjected the buses to rigorous testing, including 10,000 km of simulations and exposure to extreme heat, humidity, and sandstorms. Built to last 20 years and cover up to 2 million kilometers, these vehicles are designed for durability.

Energy Efficiency and Adaptability

Yutong’s “Blue Core System” promises improved energy efficiency, though specifics on the buses’ powertrain—whether diesel, gas, or electric—remain undisclosed. The vehicles are tailored for navigating narrow urban roads and meeting the tournament’s intensive demands.

AFCON 2025: A Continental Showcase

Scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, AFCON 2025 will take place across nine stadiums in six cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Fez, Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir. The Yutong buses will enhance existing urban transport networks and accommodate the influx of spectators. Additionally, Royal Air Maroc will operate over 660 extra flights, increasing its capacity by 50% to transport fans from across Africa and beyond.

A Lasting Legacy

Beyond the tournament, the buses represent a long-term investment for Morocco. After AFCON, they will be integrated into the country’s urban transport systems. Yutong, a trusted supplier for global events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Paris 2024 Olympics, aims to solidify its presence in Morocco and across Africa with this deal.
