The diversification of partners has enabled the Kingdom to receive large batches of anti-covid vaccines which allow it to carry out a good vaccination campaign.
The vaccination campaign is accelerating. The latest statistics confirm this. More than 41 million people have been vaccinated as of October 19, 2021, including 23.3 million for the first dose and 21 million for the second, according to the Ministry of Health. If Morocco was able to achieve this fine performance to the point of being cited among the best students in the field in the world, it is thanks to the millions of doses of vaccines received since the beginning of the year.
Concretely, the Kingdom has received more than 61 million doses since January 22, 2021. Sinopharm is ahead of the main suppliers, with 46.7 million doses, including 5 million doses received on October 10, 2021. It is followed by AstraZeneca, with 8.7 million doses. As a reminder, the British laboratory had interrupted its shipments to Morocco, after its partner Serum Institute of India (SII) decided to stop deliveries because of the catastrophic health situation in India.
More than 3 million children vaccinated
In order to diversify the partners, the Moroccan authorities have decided to turn to the American Pfizer, after the green light from the scientific committee on the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine at the end of August 2021. The last delivery dates back to Thursday, October 14, with a shipment of 270,000 doses.
In total, more than 5.8 million doses have landed at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca, since the first delivery of 600,000 doses on August 13. These new batches have enabled the ministry to extend the vaccination campaign to the 12 to 17 age group. Precisely, the vaccination of these children, which started on August 31, records reassuring statistics.
More than 2.8 million had received their first dose and more than 1 million were fully vaccinated (two doses) as of October 11, 2021, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health. 55% of them were vaccinated with Pfizer, while 45% received injections of the Sinopharm vaccine. Very reassuring figures for the health authorities, who planned to vaccinate 3 million adolescents of this age group.
The other supplier of vaccines is the Covax initiative, of which Morocco is a member, led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), which promotes vaccine access. for everyone. This program has enabled Morocco to receive more than 1.9 million doses, after receiving 650,400 doses on September 1, 2021. Boxes respectively composed of 1.6 million doses of AstraZeneca and 302,400 doses of the Janssen vaccine.
These large deliveries enabled Morocco to carry out a good vaccination campaign. They also allowed him to start, from October 4, the administration of the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine, which concerns people who have received the first two doses for at least six months.
